Description
Elegantly encased in a folding, fan-shaped box (nicely finished with a bone closure), this Treasures of the Scholar’s Table Chinese Calligraphy Deluxe Set is a charming introduction to this ancient art and an unique gift idea.
Set includes five brushes, brush rest, water pot, an “ink stick” (this is rubbed against the ink stone – the resulting concentrated powder is then mixed with drops of water from the water pot to make the ink), ink stone; a carved stone seal, and a porcelain jar of red seal paste. The seal is of the Chinese character Fu, meaning good fortune.
Handmade in China in the same tradition for centuries, this deluxe 14-piece set includes:
- 5 Handmade goathair brushes; bamboo handles (length: 4.5″)
- 1 Hand-painted porcelain brush rest
- 1 Handmade black oval 3.4 x 2.9 x .4 inch suzuri ink grinding stone with traditional hand-carved decoration
- 1 Black Sumi ink stick(9.3 grams) made from powdered burnt pine carbon; artfully decorated with gold and silver painted and embossed dragons
- 1 Jade “chop” (a stone hand stamp and seal) of the Chinese character “Fu” (“good fortune”)
- Red Chop Ink contained within a porcelain dish bearing an elaborate blue glazed dragon (for pressing the “chop” into)
- 1 Porcelain water bowl and fitted spoon
…all contained within a silk, fan-shaped box with a simple bone closure. The lid interior, lined with white satin, has five brush holders. The base of red velvet is form-fitted to keep the other components secure. The exterior of the box is a traditional Chinese silk brocade pattern in iridescent blue, green, and red.
